Winston R. Hunley
Winston R. Hunley, 101, of Swoope, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Summit Square in Waynesboro.
Mr. Hunley was born in Spring Hill, Augusta County, Virginia on March 20, 1924, son of the late David Samuel Hunley and Mable Clare (Simmons) Hunley.
Mr. Hunley was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in France during WWII. In 1953 he opened Hunley Opticians, serving Staunton and Augusta County residents.
Winston was a former member of Harrisonburg Church of the Brethren and St. Paul’s Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed sawing wood and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hunley was preceded in death by his son, Dennis P. Hunley; four brothers; a sister; and the mother of his children, Ferby Nell (Cline) Hunley.
Surviving, are two sons, Gary S. Hunley and Timothy A. Hunley and his friend, Connie Parmer, both of Staunton; two daughters, Brenda Combs and her husband, Edward of Radford and Gail Edwards and her husband, Robert of Bristol, TN; five grandchildren, Kimberly McKee, Nathan Combs, Bryan Edwards, Adam Edwards, and Eric Edwards; and three great-grandchildren, Skyler Edwards, Landon McKee, and Landry Combs.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 3289 Spottswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA.
Active pallbearers will be his grandsons, Nathan Combs, Bryan Edwards, Adam Edwards, Eric Edwards, and Landon McKee and Willie Ruleman.
A memorial service will follow, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
