Winfield Scott Daniel
Winfield Scott Daniel, 85, widower of Billie Jean (Terry) Daniel, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Mr. Daniel was born on his family farm in Rapps Mill, Rockbridge County, Virginia on October 1, 1938, the son of the late Raymond Rodgers Daniel and Helen Conner Daniel.
Winfield was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a paratrooper at Fort Bragg. He retired from Smith’s transfer and later VDOT. Mr. Daniel was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church and loved spending time at his home place in Lexington, Virginia. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh and keen sense of humor.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 56 years, Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by David L. Olsen, Laurie Lee Thomas, Vincent Terry and Sylvia Rawley.
Surviving, is a daughter, Susan D. Michael of Staunton; a granddaughter, Hollie (Michael) Cappo and her husband, Jason of Waynesboro; a great-granddaughter, Maren Jolee Cappo; a sister, Annie Laurie Olsen; a niece, Nancy Lynn Ruben; and a nephew, David Scott Olsen. Additional family members include Christine T. Goodman, Anthony T. Terry, Michael W. Terry, Paula Wilfong, Gloria Hayes, and Todd Michael.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023 at Mt. Olivet United Brethren Church Cemetery (862 Freemason Run Road, Mt. Solon, VA 22843) by Pastor Tom Quick.
The family will receive friends following the service.
