William Thompson, Jr.

February 14, 1942 - July 11, 2023

William Blair “Bill” Thompson, Jr., known by his trucker friends as “Blue Chip”, 81, of Waynesboro passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at his home. He was born in Roanoke on February 14, 1942, a son of the late William Blair Sr., and Blanche Thompson.

Bill worked as a truck driver for 24 years with Tom’s Foods and later with Yellow Freight from 1989 until 2003. He was a member of Fishersville Baptist Church. Bill was an avid car collector and enjoyed showing off his 55 Chevy Bel Air. Playing golf, watching wrestling, NASCAR, and cheering on the Washington Redskins were a few of his favorite hobbies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Roger Thompson.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 38 years and 10 months, Linda L. Thompson; children, David Thompson and wife, Lisa of Rocky Mount, Shelia Mallory of Williamstown, KY, and Michelle Kedell of Hersey, PA; four grandsons; seven granddaughters; sister, Wanda Woolwine; as well as extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6pm on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home in Fishersville.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
