William Thomas Burnett

William Thomas Burnett, 79, of Stuarts Draft, VA, passed peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Augusta Health in Fishersville, surrounded by his loved ones. He had fought a long, hard battle with heart and kidney failure for many years.

He was born on October 21, 1943 in Alexandria, Virginia to Emory Thomas Burnett and Ethel (Cox) Burnett. He graduated in 1961 from Wilson Memorial High School and enlisted to serve in the United States Air Force the next day. He worked for the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control for 36 years until his retirement in 2003, starting as a Field Inspector and retiring as a Regional Enforcement Supervisor.

He dearly loved his family including numerous pets over the years. He cared about his friends and the community he had served. He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Kathryn Burnett.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Deborah (Marshall) Burnett; a son, Scott Thomas Burnett of Staunton; a daughter, Kathryn Ann (Burnett) Hegedus; and a son-in-law, James M Hegedus, also of Staunton. He is also survived by his cousin, James Hooks of Virginia Beach; his brother-in-law, Harold (Bud) Parsons of Waynesboro; and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 PM on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Henry Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Augusta Memorial Park at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Richard Peters officiating.
