William "Pete" Henry Burns

May 19, 1951 - June 11, 2025

William Henry “Pete” Burns, 74, husband of Penny (Campbell) Burns, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Burns was born in Bath County, Virginia on May 19, 1951, a son of the late Julian H. Burns, Sr. and Opal Pearl (Rexrode) Burns.
After retiring as a Foreman from Virginia Infrastructure, Inc., Pete spent his days doing the things he loved most—fishing, hunting, mowing, and tinkering in the garage. But more than anything, he treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Burns, Emory “Tommy” Burns, and Julian H. Burns, Jr.; and a sister, Beverley Ann Keyser.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 44 years, is a son, Jonathan C. Burns and his wife, Kayla of Staunton; a daughter, Yvonne Rivera of Staunton; a brother, Steven Ray Burns of McDowell; six grandchildren, Liam, Laci, Logan, Landon, and Lucas Burns, and Dante Rivera; a number of nieces and nephews including special nephews, Dwayne and Michael Burns.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by his great-nephew, Pastor Ryan Campbell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Pete was a jeans-wearin’, boot-stompin’, hat-tippin’ kind of man. He lived simple and proud, and that’s how we wanna remember him. If you’re comin’ to celebrate Pete, don’t worry ‘bout suits or fancy clothes—just wear your jeans, your boots if you got ‘em, and whatever feels right if, you are wearing hats keep’em on. No black, no fuss. Just come as you are, and help us honor Pete the way he lived—country strong and full of heart.
The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to Dr. Overby, and the staff at DaVita Staunton Dialysis, especially Manny and Portia for the care and compassion shown to Pete.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
