William "Bill" Charles Lakin
William Charles Lakin, Jr., 76, husband of Jeanie (Thornberry) Lakin, of Waynesboro, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024 at the Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.
Mr. Lakin was born in Washington, D.C. on September 17, 1947, a son of the late William Charles Lakin, Sr. and Mary Julia (David) Lakin.
William was a member of the Deerfield Church of God and a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who earned the Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 9339 and the Staunton American Legion Post 13. William was an avid NFL fan, especially of the Washington Commanders, and enjoyed playing golf.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lakin was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Bush; and a step-son, Jeremy Johnson.
Mr. Lakin is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 29 years, is a step-son, Benji Johnson of Lexington; a step-daughter, Kerri Arehart of Stuarts Draft; and four grandchildren, Christa Arehart, Copper Arehart, Benjamin Johnson and Kayleigh Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the home of his step-daughter, Kerri Arehart, 157 Lofty Circle, Stuarts Draft, VA.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service (from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.) with a Celebration of Life to be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Merle Dodson and Mr. Drew Gibbons.
Burial will be at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Johnson, Copper Arehart, Larry Haaland, Les Helmuth, Deon Gibbons, and Devoe Gibbons.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
