Wendell Stump

Wendell Brook Stump age 69 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Sunday, August 6. 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Wendell was born on March 14,1954 in Moorefield, WV and was a son of the late Robert Brook Stump and Hazel Brison (Southerly) Stump. In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by four sister, Helen Mullins, Mildred Brookins, Dorothy Wilson and Susan Stump; one brother, Robert R. Stump.

Wendell is survived by his wife of 49 years Shirley (Alt) Stump; one son, Wendell Douglas Stump (Valerie) of Petersburg, WV; one daughter, Christina Thorne (Zyndall) of Petersburg, WV; three grandsons, Jacob Thorne, Adam Thorne and Austin Stump; three sisters, Shelva Piraino of Moorefield, WV, Betty Troy of Moorefield, WV and Nancy Troy of Moorefield, WV; two brothers, Ronald Stump (Julie) of Moorefield, WV and Carl Stump (Shelby) of Moorefield, WV; several nieces and nephews.

Wendell graduated from Moorefield High School in 1972.  He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany and later served in the Reserves.  He was employed with Dominion Energy for 30 plus years.  He loved farming, gardening, hunting and fishing.   

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Lynn Rohrbaugh officiating. Wendell’s family will receive friends from 11 a.m. till time of service on Thursday. 

Interment will be in Sites Cemetery on Elkhorn Road, Dorcas, WV.
