Walter R. McManaway
GREENVILLE – Walter Richard McManaway, Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday (July 4, 2023) at his home in Greenville.
Born April 13, 1946 in Staunton, he was a son of Arlene (Wimer) McManaway and the late Ralph Benton McManaway. He was a graduate of Buffalo Gap High School and was a U. S. Army veteran, having served in Germany as a member of the military police. Walter retired from American Safety Razor as a machine adjuster after many years of service. His favorite pastimes included hunting, as well as following NASCAR, football and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
In addition to his mother, Walter is survived by his wife, Brenda (Fitzgerald) McManaway; six children, Brandon McManaway, Trevor McManaway and partner Autumn Powell, Ronda Bottenfield and husband Boyd, Rick McManaway and wife Patty, Keeley Bedford, and Noel McManaway; a brother, Ben McManaway and partner Brenda Dice; seven grandchildren, Danielle Napier, James Coiner, Arkadia Bottenfield, Jordan McManaway, Tyler McManaway and wife Hannah, Aeden McManaway and Daniel McManaway; three great-grandchildren, Bentley Napier, Bryce Napier and Beckett McManaway; a brother-in-law, Pete Fitzgerald and wife Faye; a special sister-in-law, Sheila Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his father and by a granddaughter, Kierra Bottenfield.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 in Green Hill Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Farmer.
The family will receive friends at the home of Ronda Bottenfield, 1805 Grambling Drive, Waynesboro.
