Vivian Stone Longenecker

October 2, 1941 - October 12, 2023

Vivian Stone Longenecker, 82, of Bridgewater, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Sentara RMH Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Bassett, VA, on October 2,1941, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Vera (Wood) Stone. She spent most of her life in the Harrisonburg and Fredericksburg areas.

On June 8, 1963, she was united in marriage to James A. Longenecker, who survives. They were true soulmates since they first met in 1961 at Bridgewater College.

Vivian worked as an elementary teacher in Rockingham and Spotsylvania counties. She loved little children and greatly enjoyed teaching them. Vivian's four grandchildren held a special joy for her. An avid shopper, she adored Christmas and fellowshipping with loved ones over restaurant meals, especially dessert.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Dave (Kimberly) Longenecker, of Midlothian and Jon (Anne) Longenecker, of Fredericksburg; grandchildren Jessica Longenecker of Harrisonburg, Cory Longenecker of Fredericksburg, Chandler (Kate) Cain of Salem, and Emily Longenecker of Midlothian; brother in law Alan Adkins of Glen Allen; nieces Lori Turner of Rocky Mount and Amanda Adkins of Spotsylvania, and nephew Robert Adkins of Glen Allen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine (Gerri) Stone Adkins of Glen Allen.

We would like to thank the numerous lifelong friends that we consider family for all the years of love and friendship. Also, Vivian mentored many friends and surrogate grandkids over her lifetime.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren with Rev. Erin Dalrymple officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Forever Family Endowment at BRC. Please mail checks to Bridgewater Retirement Community 302 N 2nd St., Bridgewater, VA 22812 or donate via their website.
