Virginia Louise (Simmons) Simmons
Virginia Louise (Simmons) Simmons, 91, widow of Albert Eugene “Al” Simmons, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025 at her home in Buena Vista.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Highland County, Virginia on January 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Arlie Simmons and Gretta (Wimer) Simmons.
Virginia’s early work life included being the secretary to the principal at Highland High School. She later became the bookkeeper at Livestock Auction in Highland County and then at the Homestead in Hot Springs. She later moved to Staunton to raise her family and lived there for 55 years. During this time, she also worked at Westwood Animal Hospital for 20 years.
Mrs. Simmons enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of Springhill Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Velda (Simmons) Rohrbaugh.
Surviving, is a son, Sheldon E. Simmons and his wife, Gail; a daughter, Sandra S. Beverly and her husband, Everette of Buena Vista; Susan Michael, who was like a daughter to her; three grandchildren, Audrea Carmer and her husband, Evan, Kim Goodbar and her husband, Tim, and Stephanie Harvey; a great granddaughter, Ayla Carmer; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to all of Virginia’s caregivers, namely, Renie, Rita, Gracie, Alice, Sonia, Kim, Rose, and Tammy.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A private graveside service will be held on the Simmons Family Farm in Highland County.
