Virginia Letitia (Doak) Winston

Virginia Letitia Doak Winston, 97, of Staunton, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on May 14, 2025.
Born on June 5, 1927, in Staunton, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Lewis Doak and Leo May (Taylor) Doak. A lifelong member of Community United Methodist Church in Cedar Green, Virginia faithfully served her church family through choir participation, ushering, organizing lawn parties, and active involvement in the Women’s Auxiliary.
Virginia retired from Genesco after 35 years of dedicated service in the pressing department. She had a deep love for family and treasured cookouts, reunions, and traveling to visit loved ones. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer and was famously competitive at Wii bowling. Most people have one nickname but not her, on any given day you could hear her called Jinx, Sally, Lucy or DJ Granny. 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers, Clarence Jr., Houston, John, William, and Frank; her sister, Mae E. Doak; two children, Cynthia Wayts and Ronald (Ronnie) Patterson; two sons-in-law, Kenneth Wayts and David Christian; three grandchildren, Anthony (Tony) Moats, James (J.J.) Patterson, and Tiffany Patterson; and two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Patterson and Cy’amani Cotledge.
She is survived by her loving family: three sons, Michael (Dawn) Taylor, Billy (Peggy) Vaughn, and Johnnie (Regina) Vaughn; six daughters, Priscilla (Raj) Arjoon, Kay (Walter) Rohrer, Cheryl Christian, Elizabeth Vaughn (Roger Crawford), Catherine (Aubrey) Evans, and Connie (Dwight) Thompson; 34 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends for a viewing on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Community United Methodist Church, 249 Cedar Green Rd., Staunton, VA, officiated by Rev. Reginald Early.
Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens. 
Serving as active pallbearers are Chubby Washington, Eugene Vaughn, Poe Smith, John H. Brown, Al Johnson and Dupree Flipping. 
A repast will follow the service at the church.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
