Violet B. Swortzel
Violet Beatrice Bosserman Swortzel, 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville.She was born on June 29, 1929, in Fishersville, to the late Riley Blair and Mattie Margaret Acord Bosserman.During her impressive tenure at Riverheads High School from 1962 to 1982, Violet touched the lives of many students and colleagues with her warm smile and dedication to her work in the school cafeteria. She will be remembered for her kindness, joy, and delicious food she served to the students, faculty, and visitors that traveled through her lunch line.Outside her professional life, Violet was an incredible baker known for her delectable cakes. She was a gifted cake decorator whose creations were happily enjoyed by all those lucky enough to be served a slice. Additionally, Violet poured her heart into crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that she lovingly gifted to her grandchildren and various charitable organizations.She is survived by her son, Carroll āMacā McCheyne Swortzel (Karen); her daughter, Patricia Marie Swortzel Sensabaugh; her grandchildren, Melodye Paruszkiewicz (Patrick), Kara Hughes (Kristin Holbrook), Christopher Hughes, Rachel Ashby (Mike), Isaac Swortzel (Stephanie), and Sarah Russell (Dennis); and fourteen great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Wayte Swortzel; her brothers, Sgt. Napoleon Riley Bosserman, James Stuart Bosserman, Oliver Lee Bosserman, Richard Condeleon Bosserman, Glenwood Arachon Bosserman, and Cliftmont Bosserman, and her sisters, Mary Bell Bosserman Homan and Katie Rebecca Bosserman Kniceley.A funeral service to honor and celebrate Violet's life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Saint John's Reformed Church in Staunton with the Reverends Kristin Holbrook and Dennis Russell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service, beginning at 10:00 AM.Ā Interment will follow in the church cemetery.Ā Serving as pallbearers will be Isaac Swortzel, Mike Ashby, Dennis Russell, Patrick Paruszkiewicz, Christopher Hughes, Kara Hughes, Michael Swortzel and Danny Swortzel.Church members and her neighbors, Guy Williams, Larry Mazza, Bill Wade, Michael Ashby, Sr., Dave Moody, and Ken McCoy will act as honorary pallbearers.
