Velma K. Moyers

Velma Frances Knight Moyers, 92, passed away peacefully at her residence in Staunton, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, January 20, 2024. She was born on September 20, 1931, in Beckley, West Virginia to the late Oren Chester and Archie Lova Phillips Knight.Velma dedicated many years of her life to serving others as a charge aide with Western State Hospital in Staunton. Velma's commitment to her career was a true testament to her kind-heartedness and selflessness.Outside of her professional life, Velma found joy in various hobbies and activities. She was a member of Saint Paul's Church in Staunton.  Additionally, she was known for her love of bowling, actively participating in the local league. In her earlier years, Velma enjoyed fishing, finding tranquility in the peacefulness of nature.She is survived by her son, John Preston Johnson; her daughters, Brenda Kay Johnson Arehart and her husband, Carey, and Barbara Ann Fravel Dively; her brothers, Jerrel "JT" Thomas Knight and his wife, Debbie, and Glenville "Lucky" Howard Knight and his wife, Joyce; her sister, Shirley Arlene Knight Hagy; her grandsons, Jason Arehart, William Cody Dively, and Michael Wayne Dively; her granddaughters, April Johnson and Michelle Yeago; numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; her special friends, Bob and Louise Hoy, Phyllis Lundsford, Phil Balsley, and Joyce Davis; and her beloved dog, Cuddles.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herbert "Herb" Hoover Moyers, Sr.; her brothers, Charles Edward Knight, Carl "Buck" Lee Knight, Sr., and James "Jimmy" Orville Knight; her sister, Betty Marie Knight Wagner; a grandson, Aaron Johnson; and her late husbands, Johnny W. Johnson, and Vivian Fravel. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton with the Reverend Bobby Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton.
