Thomas "Tom" Evans
Thomas (Tom) Evans, Stuarts Draft Va., passed away on January 6, 2024. In addition to his parents, Jesse and Betty Evans Koerner, Tom was preceded in death by his youngest brother Jesse J Evans Ill and brother-in law Steven Oster. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, Joanne, and son John, are his sister Susan Oster, Kansas City Mo, and brothers Robert Evans and wife Pam, South Glen Falls, N.Y. and Craig Evans and wife Denyse, Pen Argyl, Pa. a very special daughter, Heather Williams, and her son Gavin, as well as many nieces and their families, and wonderful friends in Pennsylvania, N.J. and Virginia.
Originally from East Bangor, Pa., Tom served 3 years in the army. Following his military service, he attended Rider University in Lawrence Township NJ and graduated with a BS degree in Business Management.
Following a short partnership in the family grocery business, he relocated to New Jersey where he enjoyed a 27 yr career as a Public Works Manager working for several municipalities. Tom participated in the creation of the New Jersey Public Works Association and filled several roles in that organization. He also served as an instructor for the Rutgers University, Division of Local Government Services, where he taught Public Works related courses. Following his retirement from Piscataway Twp he was a self employed as a handy man before moving to his current home in Va. where he became a passionate member of the Central Virginia Wood Turners. He served in several leadership roles in the CVW and mentor to those new to wood turning. Tom successfully sold his art through various galleries and won multiple awards for his work.
A memorial service will be held at McDow Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm. Interment will be in the Fair View Cemetery, Pen Argyl, Pa. at a future date.
