Thomas Edwin Wright

January 15, 1949 - October 6, 2023

Thomas Edwin Wright, Jr. of Harrisonburg, VA, Aged 74 years and 9 months, passed away on October 6, 2023, following a valiant fight with cancer.

Born in Littlefield, Texas, to Thomas Edwin Wright and Loise Morene (Nix) Wright, who

preceded him in death.

Tom grew up in Morgan City and Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended NcNeese State University earning a degree in Marketing. Following active-duty service in the Navy in Vietnam, he attended Louisiana State University, graduating with a Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture. Tom spent his entire career working for the U.S. Forest Service, first at the Ouachita National Forest in Arkansas then transferring to the George Washington National Forest office in Harrisonburg from which he retired in 2008. He loved his work in the National Forest Service where among other things, he designed campgrounds, trails, swimming beaches, fishing piers, and picnic areas. He often told folks that he was paid to have fun.

Tom proudly continued his career in the Navy Reserve, serving a total of 22 years and

retiring in 1992 with the rank of Commander.

He loved the outdoors, was a friend to animals, an expert at identifying flora and fauna, and particularly enjoyed the adventure of travel. Tom was a voracious reader and a terrific cook. He appreciated all types of music and was an aficionado of vinyl long before it came back into favor. He was vibrant, fun-loving, interested in life and ever curious.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Wilma Greer Wright, his son, Christopher Husband, daughter-in-law, Shelley Hanger Husband, and grandchildren Tyler, Ada, Christian and Emma Husband. Also surviving are his brothers Jackson Wright and his wife Sharon of San Angelo, Texas, and Bill Wright and his wife Cathy of Bullard, Texas, and four nieces.
