Thomas Carlton Clemmer, 73, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville surrounded by his family. He was born on May 27, 1953, in Staunton, a son of the late Burness Carlton and Loretta Nadine Thomas Clemmer. For nearly thirty years, Tom worked at Hollister, Inc. in Stuarts Draft, where his hard work and easy friendship will surely leave a mark on all the people he worked with. Outside of work, he filled his life with music - especially classic rock - and with travel throughout the United States and abroad. He loved the beach, particularly the Outer Banks. A foodie in the truest sense, Tom loved international cuisine and was always ready to try something exotic. He also loved the outdoors and hunting trips. Tom was happiest when he was discovering something new. Whether he was exploring another country, trying a dish he had never tasted, or hearing the story of someone he had just met, Tom brought curiosity and enthusiasm to every experience. No one left him as a stranger because he loved learning about the lives and cultures of others. His playful and goofball nature balanced well with his thoughtful conversations. Tom shared his greatest adventures with Helen, the love of his life. For over sixteen years, they traveled, explored, and made countless memories across the globe. Wherever they went, Tom found joy in the people they met and the experiences they shared. He gave that same spirit of adventure to his children. Tom encouraged them to be brave, to push beyond the safe and familiar, and to keep growing through discovery. He loved them fiercely and devotedly. A protector and provider, he embraced his family and all those around him with an open heart and always strived to put love at the center of his life. In addition to his beloved wife, Helen Rosemary Robinson Clemmer, he is survived by his loving children, Joseph Thomas Clemmer and his partner, Jeremy “Jims” Hinkle, and Rachel Kathleen Clemmer and her partner, Dustin Skillman; his sister, Anita Kay Clemmer; a special cousin, Peggy Knowles; and his dearest friend, Tom Pollard. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Ann Marie Clemmer; the mother of his children, Mildred “Millie” Carmon Brown Clemmer; a son, Matthew Daniel Clemmer; and his brother, Timothy Collins Clemmer. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, also at Henry Funeral Home. Interment at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton will follow. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorial contributions be made to Blood Cancer United (Attn: Donor Services, PO Box 22324, New York, NY 10087).
