Thelma Jane Bourne

Thelma Jane (Fisher) Bourne, 84, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at The Phoenix in Harrisonburg.

She was born in Harrisonburg on July 2, 1939 and was a daughter of the late Otto W. and Hazel (Eckard) Fisher.

Thelma was a Harrisonburg High School and Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing graduate. She worked as a Registered Nurse and over her career worked for RMH, Bethesda Naval and UVA hospitals. She served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for several years. She had a sweet spirit, a servant's heart, so very nurturing and loving, and always caring for those around her. She was a caregiver to many over the years. She volunteered with various organizations and was an active member of Garber's Church of the Brethren where she sang in the choir.

Thelma was united in marriage, for 53 years, to Donald Bourne who survives.

Thelma is also survived by her children, Nelson Bourne and Christopher Bourne, both of Harrisonburg, and Laura Bauserman and husband, R.G., of Strasburg; grandchildren, Sabrina Bauserman, Kerrigan Bauserman; sisters, Carolyn Johnson, of Harrisonburg, and Mary Lou Whitmore, of Mount Crawford; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Thelma's life will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Garber's Church of the Brethren with David Kite officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Hospice of Harrisonburg, 2322 Blue Stone Hills Drive, Ste. 220, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 or any organization of choosing.
