Stephen A. Lockridge
VERONA – Stephen Alexander Lockridge, Jr., 88, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
Born December 30, 1934 in Deerfield, he was a son of the late Stephen Alexander Sr. and Virginia (Cox) Lockridge.
Mr. Lockridge graduated from Churchville High School. His long career with the Virginia Department of Transportation included many years as a surveyor; he retired as a bridge inspector. He was a member of Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church, where he remained active on Session even after moving from Deerfield to Verona. He became an active “honorary” member of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church, and eagerly supported the life of his church community in numerous ways. He was an avid baseball (Atlanta Braves) fan, and enjoyed fishing with his son.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jean (Rimel) Lockridge; a son-in-law, Samuel Cook; and two brothers, William and Francis Lockridge. Surviving are his children, David Anthony Lockridge of Verona, and Julia Lockridge Cook of Stuarts Draft; sister, Laura L. Brenner of Charlotte, N.C.; a step grandson, Samuel Cook II, his wife Keri and their daughter Hailey; two nephews, Raymond Lockridge and Michael Brenner; and two nieces, Cheryl Brenner and Ellen Harris.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 23 in Rocky Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Deerfield.
