Sharen Marie Anderson

Sharen Marie Anderson, 52, formerly of Fayette Street, Staunton passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at her father’s residence in Staunton.

Ms. Anderson was born in Staunton, Virginia on August 3, 1970, a daughter of Wayne Winfred Anderson and the late Betty Jane (Douglas) Anderson.

Sharen was a dedicated Case Manager Counselor at Augusta Correctional Center and Cold Springs Correctional Center for 25 years, and was a member of the Hatton Pond Baptist Church. She was a drum major at Robert E. Lee High School, where she graduated in 1988, and also graduated from Radford University. Sharen enjoyed cooking and baking. She devoted much of her time to Special Olympics, Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign, American Cancer Society Relay for Life as a team captain and committee member, and many other notable charities.

In addition to her mother, Ms. Anderson was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Larry and Bessie (Ransome) Douglas; paternal grandfather, Robert F. Smith; paternal grandmother, Glenzia Ware Anderson; and many special family members.

Surviving, in addition to her father, is her twin sister, Karen A. Jones of Highland Springs, Virginia; her devoted partner, Sandy Oxendine of Staunton; an adopted brother, Anthony Smith of Denver, Colorado; two aunts, Linda Marie Darcus and Evelyn Kier; an uncle, Phillip Anderson; a nephew, Caleb B. Jones; and her work sister, Vickie Kennedy; and a number of special family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at her father’s residence, 2002 First Street, Staunton, VA 24401.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church by Rev. Eddie Harris.

Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Anthony Darcus, Thomas Redman, Darren Pultz, Mark Neeley, Curtis Stilley, Shaun J. Waters, Sr., Christian Darcus, and Shaun J. Waters, Jr.
