Scott Ambler

CRIMORA – Landon Scott Ambler, 57, beloved husband, father and son, died unexpectedly Sunday (October 8, 2023) in his home.

Scott was born December 19, 1965 in Waynesboro, the son of Beverly Landon Ambler and Rachel (Phillippe) Ambler. He graduated from Buffalo Gap High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Virginia Tech. A dedicated public servant to the agricultural community, he was employed with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation for over 20 years, most recently as the Resource Management Program Coordinator.

Scott was also incredibly resourceful, able to fix anything. He frequently used his skills and intuition to the benefit of his family and his wide community of friends and neighbors. Scott was an avid outdoorsman, especially fond of spending time in the woods and on the water.

A devoted father, he thoroughly enjoyed his role in passing on his love of nature to his son. He was extremely proud of Landon.

Scott trusted Christ with his future, and is secure with his Heavenly Father.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Oscar and Dorothy Phillippe, and paternal grandparents Robert and Ella Ambler.

In addition to his parents of Staunton, he is survived by his wife of 18 years, Tamara Jo Ambler, whom he married on June 4, 2005; his son, Landon Joseph Ambler; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of dear friends.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 15 in the chapel of Bear Funeral Home, Churchville, officiated by Rev. Ethan Allison. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
