Sandra Kay Lineweaver

August 5, 1946 - December 18, 2023

Sandra Whitmer Lineweaver, 77, of Harrisonburg, passed on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the Bridgewater Retirement Community.

She was born on August 5, 1946 in Harrisonburg, VA, and was a daughter of the late Herbert B. Whitmer, Jr. and Louise (Cash) Whitmer.

She graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1964 and earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Madison College in 1968, then taught at Watermen Elementary School. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving in various leadership roles over the years.

She cherished her role as a wife, mother, sister and loyal friend and loved spending time entertaining family and friends. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and watching them participate in their various sports.

Sandra also loved giving back and supporting the local community. She served as a Deacon of First Presbyterian Church, co-chair of the WVPT auction with her husband, was active in Harrisonburg Junior Woman's Club and volunteered with numerous local charities. In addition to giving back, she loved traveling with family and friends and was always ready to try a new sport.

In 1969 she was united in marriage to William Price Lineweaver, who survives. She is also survived by two sons, Will Lineweaver(Claudia) of Crozet, and Brian Lineweaver (Kerrie) of Falls Church; a sister, Barbara Hill (Donnie) of Aldie, a brother-in-law, John Foster, of Tallahassee, 6 grandchildren (Price, Jay, Bennie, Drew, Carter and Sydney), and nieces and nephews (Sarah, Katherine, Joy, and Bruce).

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Rebecca Aiba, and Sarah Foster.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 6, at the First Presbyterian Church followed by a 3:30 PM Service with the Rev. Jon Herringa officiating.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridgewater Retirement Community (302 N. 2nd Street, Bridgewater, VA 22812) or First Presbyterian Church (17 Court Square, Harrisonburg, VA 22802).

Additionally, the family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Alta Showalter for her love and kindness in caring for Sandra, as well as the exceptional caregivers at Joy House at Bridgewater Retirement Community.
