Roy Lee Hartless

August 18, 1950 - December 3, 2023

Roy Lee Hartless, 73, peacefully passed from this world into heaven on December 3, 2023.  He was surrounded by family as he quietly went with God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Albert Hartless and Mary Benson and his oldest brother, William "Bill" Hartless.
Roy was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and earned a Criminal Justice degree from Blue Ridge Community College. He was a volunteer with SARS and worked at King's Daughters Hospital before joining the Staunton Police Department, where he worked for over 30 years. During his time at the Police Department, he worked as a Patrolman, Investigator, Patrol Sergeant, and Sergeant of Investigations before his retirement.
Roy was most importantly a proud husband to Pam for over 50 years. He was a father to Chris and Michael; a father-in-law to Renee Hartless and Jess Hartless; a grandfather to Brittany and Tyler Bourne, Chase and Leanne Hartless, Paula and Derek Davis, Gage and Gracelyn Lansberry, Allyson and Seneca Graham; a great-grandfather to Declan, Reese, Aiden, Cadence, Brantley and Sophie; a brother to John and Susan Hartless; and an uncle to various nieces and nephews. He also was a father to his Tennessee daughter Brandy Hutchinson and his granddaughter Sophia Hutchinson.
Roy always instilled a sense of family, and he set into practice overcoming life's struggles together as a family. He will be remembered as a man who protected those he cared about, loved big, worked hard to provide, and set a positive example to others. Roy always had a never give up, always keep fighting outlook.
Roy was proud of his family and his service to the community. He taught those around him the meaning of "others over self."  He was a friend, mentor, and teacher; he always did what he believed was the right thing to do, even if it went against the grain.  Those who were close to him may still hear his words of advice or his often funny stories in a gentle breeze and feel his warmth in the shine of the sun.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church by Pastor John Craft.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
