Roland Calhoun Miller
Roland Calhoun Miller, age 91, of Petersburg, WV went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Valley Health Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. He was born on June 8, 1932, in Kline, WV, the son of the late Roy Washington and Lillian (Calhoun) Miller. Roland was preceded in death by his wife, who he married on July 23, 1955, Arvella (Evick) Miller on April 25, 2010.
Mr. Miller attended school in Mozer, WV and the First Baptist Church in Petersburg. Roland joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he began working for his Uncle Johnny hauling chickens to Pennsylvania, then becoming a parts manager and driving a wrecker for Petersburg Motor Company. He also worked for Ours Chevrolet, and Wagner Chevrolet as a parts manager. He continued his career working for Adell Polymers before retiring from the Petersburg Oil Company. Roland was a former member of the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed gardening, especially caring for his roses, cutting firewood, and acting as a āshade treeā mechanic. He could fix anything you brought to him. Above all, Roland loved his family and spending precious time holding the grandbabies.
Roland leaves behind to cherish his memories: 3 daughters, Karen Kesner of Petersburg, WV; Debra Rexrode (Donald) of Maysville, WV; Rhonda Miller of Petersburg, WV; a son, Roger Miller of Petersburg, WV; 3 sisters, Shirley Riggleman (Brooke) of Mt. Crawford, VA; Sue Knotts (Willis) of Bridgewater, VA; Charlotte Miller of Mozer, WV; 10 Grandchildren, Brandon Miller (Nikole), Roy Miller (Tyua), Jennifer Parker, Melody Mowery, Vanessa Fortino (Steven), Jonathan Kesner, Tonya Rohrbaugh (Todd), Donald C. Rexrode II (Ashlea), Natasha Guerro (Randy), Derek Ours (Karey); 19 Great-Grandchildren, Zander Bennett, Tristen, Ryan, and Mikayla Miller, Tyler Parker, Madeline Mowery, Gavin, Hayley, and Blake Fortino, Kristen Hall, Brooklynn and Trace Rohrbaugh, Sophie and Saylor Rexrode, Takoda, Lucas, Angelina, and Kingston Guerro, Kaysen McMillin; 3 Great-Great- Grandchildren, Clayton Hall, Everly Guerro, Jacklynn Parker, and one more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Charles Lee āBudā Miller; a sister, Anna Lynn Westfall; and a granddaughter, Danielle Rebekah Miller.
Rolandās family will receive friends on Saturday, July 22, 2023, 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 23 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Lynn Durbin officiating. Interment will be in the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV with military honors bestowed by the US Army and the Grant County Veteran Honor Guard.
