Robert S. Sheffer

Robert Stanley “Jake” Sheffer, age 80, died Sunday (October 29, 2023) in the University of Virginia Hospital.

Jake was born January 15, 1943 in Augusta County to Robert Lee and Viola Catherine (Michael) Sheffer. He graduated from North River High School and Blue Ridge Community College, and was a member of Parnassus United Methodist Church. Jake was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, and was a lifetime member of Staunton Lodge 13 A.F. & A.M. He was employed by Alcoa as a machinist and a tool-and-die maker prior to retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Nancy Redifer, Patsy Sheffer and Betty Huffman; and a brother, Dave Sheffer. Surviving are his loving partner of 30 years, Pat Wimer; two children, Dee Dee McCray and Rob Sheffer; three sisters, Geraldine Cook, Rita Yorro and Dolly Long; four grandchildren, Dillon McCray, Brittany Leslie, Melanie Miller and Hayden Morris; Pat’s children, Johnny Wimer and Chrissy Sundell and their families; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 3 in Parnassus United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Shawn Cook. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Thursday in Bear Funeral Home.
