Robert C. Morrison
JACKSONVILLE, FLA - Robert Caldwell Morrison died Thursday, November 4, 2021 in St. Vincent’s Hospice Care.
Born August 28, 1923 in Richmond, Virginia, he was a son of Robert Hall Morrison and Lura Caldwell Morrison.
In 1941 he left Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri to enlist in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as a LTJG, serving in the Pacific until the end of World War II. He returned to Virginia to finish undergraduate work in chemical engineering at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. He married Margaret Elizabeth “Teddy” Bear of Churchville, Virginia, and began working with Standard Oil of New Jersey. He worked with Esso in New York City and Miami before moving to the Panama Canal Zone as manager of Esso Marine Supply Company.
Bob and Teddy retired in 1982 and moved to Ormond Beach, Florida. Teddy passed away in 1989.
In 1993 Bob married Beverly Mizrahi, and in 2014, they moved to a retirement community in Deland, Florida. After Beverly’s death in 2015, Bob continued living in Deland until his move to Jacksonville in 2021.
Throughout their lives, Bob and Teddy were actively involved in many organizations including the Balboa Union Church, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Navy League, and Kiwanis. Bob was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, serving in many roles.
Robert C. Morrison was the grandson of the Rev. Robert Morrison, one of six founders of Phi Delta Theta, and he remained a lifelong and honored member of his fraternity.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Teddy; his second wife, Beverly; his eldest daughter, Betsy Vosburgh (Dave); and son-in-law Clay Simmons. Surviving are his children Nancy Morrison, Robert Foltz-Morrison (Leslie), Marilou Simmons, and Bill Morrison (Melody); six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating his life and resurrection will be held at a later date. His place of burial will be next to his wife Margaret Elizabeth Bear in Green Hill Cemetery in her hometown of Churchville, Virginia. Bear Funeral Home is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, or the Presbyterian Foundation.
