Richard Thomas Portlock
Richard Thomas Portlock, 76, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born in Norfolk on June 28, 1947, a son of the late Cecil Earl, Sr. and Myrtle Wall Portlock.
His family and friends knew him as Rick, and he was well known in Augusta County where he retired as an Audio-Visual and Computer Networking Technician from Augusta County Schools. Rick served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of White Hill Church of the Brethren and was a big history buff, mainly focusing on the Civil War. He also enjoyed collecting and shooting guns, working on his Miata (whom he named “Myrtle” after his mother), and taking care of his dogs, Abby and Blitz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Portlock, Jr. and sister, Blanche Atkins.
Survivors include his children, Shaun Portlock and Candace Portlock; three grandsons: Kaidyn, Khye, and Knox; brothers, Johnny Portlock and wife, Alice and Joey Portlock and wife, Donna; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Per Richard’s wishes, no services will be conducted.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the nightshift doctors, nurses, and staff at Augusta Health for their care of Richard and his family.
