Richard Lee Mowbray

Richard Lee Mowbray, 72, of Bridgewater, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025.

He was born on June 21, 1953, and was a son of the late Florine (Mowbray) Herring, and was loveling raised by his foster mother, Martha Arbogast.

Richard had worked as a superintendent for Contracting Unlimited over 30 years of dedicated service. He was a simple man with strong beliefs. He loved his family and his work. Richard lived for Sunday's to watch his grandkids playing in the yard with the ball and bat he kept in the hallway closet. and family and friends visit. He enjoyed playing the lottery, going to McDonald's on Sunday with Lee and the Washington Redskins. His greatest joy came from time with his family and fishing with Lee and Cole.

Richard was united in marriage on September 23, 1978 to Virginia Anne "Jenny Anne" (Campbell) Mowbray, who preceded him in death on January 11, 2019.

Surviving in addition to his foster mother are his children, Crystal (Ira) Wolfe, Richard (Natasha) Mowbray, and Melissa (Jonathan) Rawley; grandchildren, Virginia (Bev Strawderman, II) Wolfe, J.R. Wolfe, Tyler (Katlyn) Wolfe, Hailey Wolfe, Cole Mowbray, Justin Mowbray, Chloe Mowbray, Sara (Chase) Meadows, Heather (Dalton) Crickenberger, Meghan (Joshua) Poole, and Jacob Rawley; great grandchildren, Augustus Meadows, Ruby Crickenberger, Bev Strawderman, III, Ridley Anne Strawderman, Lakelynn Mae Wolfe, and Abigale Strawderman.

A service celebrating Richard's life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 4 PM, at New Life Baptist Church (New Hope Community Center), 691 Battlefield Rd., Ft. Defiance, VA 24437, with Pastor Corey Smallwood officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
