Raymond W. Parnell
MT. SIDNEY – Raymond Walter Parnell of Mt. Sidney, formerly of Staunton, died December 5, 2023 at 2:09 a.m. in Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born August 10, 1928 in Slab Fork, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Jacob W. Parnell and Dolly (Mize) Parnell Zimmerman. He graduated from Waynesboro High School and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
On March 31, 1956 he married the former Miss Peggy Ann Anderson, who preceded him in death on September 15, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Nina P. Brydge and Margaret P. Hudson; and his brother, Rudolph C. Zimmerman.
He retired from American Safety Razor with over 35 years of service. He was a faithful member of Celebration Church of God.
Surviving are his daughters, Pamela P. Hevener (Reginald) of Staunton, and Kimberly Orebaugh of Mt. Sidney; four grandchildren, Margaret H. Hall (Aaron) of Crimora, Jonathon R. Orebaugh (Tonya) of Mt. Sidney, Caroline E. Hevener (Tess) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Hunter R. Orebaugh (Dreama) of Verona; eight great-grandchildren Conor J. Brady, Olivia R. Brady, Olivia A. Hall, Addison L. Hall, Jacob R. Orebaugh, Emma F. Orebaugh, Sierra M. Orebaugh and Lilly L. Orebaugh; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 12 in Augusta Memorial Park, officiated by his nephew, Rev. Larry Hudson. Pallbearers will be Reginald Hevener, Aaron Hall, Conor Brady, Jacob Orebaugh, Caroline Hevener, Jonathon Orebaugh, Hunter Orebaugh, Trever Wheeler and Rudolph Zimmerman.
His body rests at Bear Funeral Home, where friends and family may call on Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
