Raymond Samuel Douglas Desper

Raymond Samuel Douglas Desper, 84, husband of Carol Desper of Foxfield Drive, Staunton, departed this life unexpectedly on Thursday, August 27, 2026 in Tennessee while traveling with his loving wife. Mr. Desper was born in Augusta County, on August 21, 1942, the eldest son of Howard and Catherine Desper of Desper Hollow. He was the 5th generation of the family born and raised at the home place. Mr. Desper was preceded in death by his parents; his 5 siblings; and his first wife of 56 years, Brenda Joyce (Doyle) Desper. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Fishersville, Virginia. He continued his education in the design and building industry with good mentors, hard work, an open mind, wit, humor, humility, and the rare trait of creative three-dimensional thinking. As a result, thousands of people are living in wonderful homes, working in impressive buildings, and worshipping in glorious churches. He was an active member of the Mint Spring United Methodist Church and the Mint Spring Ruritan Club, serving in various positions over many years. Mr. Desper was truly selfless with his contributions to the community and beyond with various charities and civic organizations. Many people lived in the warmth of his understanding and care. Left to cherish their memories are his wife of 6 years, Carol and his sons and families: Michael Desper, daughter-in-law Marla, Douglas Desper, daughter-in-law Donna, and his special son Gregory Smith. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Samuel Desper, daughter in law Sarah Casteneda, Katherine Cason and her husband DJ, Joshua Desper and his wife Cammie, Amber George, and Zachery George as well as 16 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Carol’s children Eric, Dean, and Kim and their families also remain to celebrate his life. In accordance with Mr. Desper’s wishes a private Graveside Service will be held.
