Phyllis Hawk
Phyllis Loraine Hawk, age 87 of Petersburg, WV passed away on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023 at her home. Phyllis was born on August 15, 1936 in Morgantown, WV and was a daughter of the late Stewart Hayward Mills and Elsie Elizabeth (Schiffbauer) Mills. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Olin T. Hawk in 2019 and one brother, Robert Mills.
Phyllis is survived by three sons, Terry L. Hawk (Tina) of Petersburg, WV, Kevin S. Hawk (Madelyn) of Germantown, MD, and Rodney E. Hawk of Petersburg, WV; one daughter, Rhonda K. Sites (Lysle Jr.) of Petersburg, WV; thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Herstine (Richard) of Morgantown, WV and one brother, Raymond Mills (Linda) of Morgantown, WV. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis spent her childhood in the rolling hills of Morgantown, WV and was a 1955 graduate of Morgantown High School. After graduation she worked for the Coombs Flower Shop in Morgantown. Phyllis and Olin were married on December 28, 1960. Phyllis was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg and a member of Petersburg Auxiliary Post 78 and Petersburg Garden Club. Phyllis’s Creativity was evident in everything she did.
Throughout her life, Phyllis faced challenges with grace and fortitude, never losing her gentle spirit. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate family to touch the lives of many, leaving a legacy of love that will endure through generations.
Funeral service will be Monday, December 4, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Schaeffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Baer, Jr. and Larry W. Hedrick officiating.
Phyllis’s family will receive friends from 11:00 AM till time of service at 1 PM.
Interment will follow in Maysville Cemetery.
