Oscar Ashby
Woodrow W. “Oscar” Ashby, Jr., 75, of Churchville, died Friday (October 20, 2023) in King’s Daughters’ Community Health and Rehab Center.
Born December 6, 1947 in Churchville, he was a son of Woodrow W. “Woody” and Geraldine Beckwith “Becky” (Sandidge) Ashby. He graduated from Buffalo Gap High School, and in 1970 graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. Oscar was dedicated to his life-long work as a beef cattle farmer. He loved the outdoors; in addition to farming, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an enthusiastic card player.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Sandidge Ashby.
Surviving are two sons, W. W. “Chip” Ashby III and wife Kimberly of Littleton, Colo. , and Christopher S. “Boozie” Ashby and wife Tanya of Churchville; two brothers, Christopher Clark Ashby and wife Barbara of Churchville, and Forrest Turner Ashby and wife Donna of Staunton; two sisters, Jane Ashby Bagley of Swoope and Judith Ashby Steed of Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law Anna Herrington Ashby of Churchville; two grandsons, Ryder and Griffyn Ashby of Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no public services.
