Oliver "O.H." Hinkle Cline

November 5, 1928 - September 9, 2025

Oliver Hinkle “O.H.” Cline, Jr., 96, widower of Eleanor Lucille (Mays) Cline, of Staunton, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Augusta Health in Fishersville.
Mr. Cline was born in Augusta County, Virginia on November 5, 1928, a son of the late Oliver Hinkle Cline, Sr. and Cornelia Susan (Roudabush) Cline.
“O.H.” lived a full and purposeful life, marked by hard work, community service, and deep devotion to faith and family.
In his youth, Mr. Cline was actively involved in the Boy Scouts and the Future Farmers of America (FFA), early signs of his commitment to service and the land. He later attended Blue Ridge Community College, where he studied engine repair, developing practical skills he would carry with him throughout his life.
On June 3, 1955, “O.H.” married the love of his life, Eleanor, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and dedication. In the years that followed, he began his professional career in construction, working as a foreman for Knopp Bros from 1960 to 1978, and later for J.B. Wine and Son from 1979 to 1990. As a builder of homes, banks, and churches, Mr. Cline left a lasting legacy in the communities he served.Alongside his construction work, “O.H.” also drove a school bus for four years and operated an orchard, blending his strong work ethic with a love for the land and local community.
Faith played a central role in Mr. Cline’s life. He was a long-time member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served on the church board for many years. Earlier in his life, he also served as a deacon for the Brethren Church.
“O.H.” was also deeply engaged in service and recreation. For 10 years, he volunteered at the Lake Moomau National Forest Campground, giving back to the natural spaces he loved. He and Eleanor enjoyed 16 years as “Winter Texans,” spending winters in the South where they built new friendships and memories.
“O.H.” participated in three line dance clubs over 16 years, bringing joy and energy to each gathering.
Throughout every chapter of his life, Mr. Cline lived with purpose, humility, and generosity — always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or build something that would last.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, and his parents, Mr. Cline was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Cecil Cline; and a sister, Lena M. (Cline) Wimer.
Surviving, are two sons, John Adrian Cline and his wife, Patricia of Staunton and Mark Stephen Cline of Florida; a daughter, Gail E. (Cline) Auen and her husband, Michael of Verona; grandchildren, Jennifer A. Beauchamp and her husband, Ashton, Corey N. Auen and his wife, Charlotte, and Carrie-Anne N.
