Nina "Jean" Smith Nessar

July 5, 1931 - August 5, 2023

Nina “Jean” (Smith) Nessar, 92, widow of Fred Lee Nessar of Springhill Road, Staunton went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Nessar was born in Fordwick, Virginia on July 5, 1931 a daughter of the late Roy Miller Smith, Sr. and Virginia Bell (Via) Smith.

Jean was a faithful member of the Lighthouse Church, and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She enjoyed going to yard sales, cooking for her family and canning vegetables.

In addition to her husband of 40 years and her parents, Mrs. Nessar was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Nessar; a daughter, Pamela Jean “Pam” Nessar; two brothers, infant, Billy Via Smith and Roy Miller Smith, Jr.; and four sisters, Helen Hodge, Katherine Lyle, Faye Paige Rife, and Judy S. Grimm.

Surviving are two sons, D. Michael “Mike” Nessar and wife Jane of Staunton, and W. Kevin Nessar and wife Terri of Verona; a sister, Mrs. Major Nelson (Smith) Wade and husband Harold Lee of Swoope; three grandsons, Daniel A. Nessar, Kevin H. Nessar and Matthew M. Nessar; four great-grandchildren, Dylan H. Nessar, Noah H. Nessar, Sebastian Kevin Nessar and Annabelle Bryant; a very special friend and caregiver, Darlene Smallwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2023 in Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.

A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023 in the Lighthouse Church, 5031 Morris Mill Road, Swoope, by Pastors Janelle and Kirk Wade.

Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Troy, Eric, Miles and Kyle Wade, Mike Walters, Larry Kisamore, David McDonaldson and Tyler Tuttle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Kershner and nieces and nephews attending the service.
