Nathean "Luke" Harper Obituary
Nathean Lucus “Luke” Harper, 42, of Mount Sidney, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 22, 2026, just two days before his birthday. He was born in Staunton on August 24, 1983.
Luke graduated from Wilson High School and proudly served in the United States Army. He spent 15 month deployed and served in the Iraq War. He was stationed in Hawaii for his full term of three years. After returning home from Iraq, Luke took a road trip home. He started in California and traveled to every state along his way. Once returning home from his military tours in Iraq, he was employed with Ball Corporation for 14 years were he had advanced to the maintenance department. He then worked at Shamrock Foods as an electro mechanical technician until his illness.
Luke enjoyed hunting in Highland County on his grandfather’s land. He was an avid fisherman, especially deep sea fishing and going fishing from the peer in Hampton. Luke most favorite times were with his family. He enjoyed seeing his children and would do anything for them. Luke never met a stranger, he loved to talk and make new friends everywhere he went. He always forgave and showed kindness to everyone.
Luke was greeted into Heaven by his second father, Randy Allen; grandfathers, Jim Estep and Marvin Puckett, Jr. and his grandmother, Thelma Reid.
Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Bridgett (Harper) Allen of Waynesboro; father, Harvey Thornton, Sr. of Grottoes; grandmother, Betty Jean Estep; grandfather, Dwight Harper; son, Lucas Becerra of Crozet; daughter, Raelynn Peters of Fulk Run, Raelynn’s mother, Morgan Peters; granddaughter, Serenity Becerra of Crozet; brother, Ian Allen of Waynesboro; aunts, Jeannette Harper of Stuarts Draft; Cheryl Cooper (Glenn) of Vero Beach, FL; as well as extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10am on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Strickler officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Glenn Cooper, Danny Carrico, Steve Earhart, Mike Lowe, Thomas Hummel, and Ray Peters
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
