Nannie Rennie Brown

August 13, 1930 - October 12, 2023

Nannie Gordon Rennie Brown, 93, passed away peacefully October 12, 2023 at Blue Ridge Christian Homes.

She is survived by her children, Robert, Nancy Davis (Chuck), Sam Brown (Cindy), Julie Sherman (Ben), Grace Webb (Steve), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Porterfield Brown, Jr. (Bob); and brothers, Frank Rennie, III, Allen Rennie and Thomas Rennie of Richmond ,Va.

Nan attended Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to graduate from Madison College in 1952. She began her teaching career in Richmond, Va where she married Bob. They then moved back to Pleasant Hill Farm in Swoope, Va. where they raised five children and had many wonderful times hosting their relatives and friends, V.S.D.B. classes and foreign exchange students. Throughout her long career, Nan worked as a teacher of the deaf at V.S.D.B, then as a counselor, receiving her Masters' Degree in counseling from J.M.U. later in life. She was also an interpreter for the hearing-impaired community. Nan was a natural born counselor and helped many students.

Throughout the rest of her life, she continued to offer a kind, listening ear and encouraging, uplifting words to all in need. She was a member of the Tuesday Club; was a Woodrow Wilson Birthplace historical interpreter; and was a member of the choir, as well as an Elder at Hebron Presbyterian Church. She was known for her love of dancing, singing and telling a good joke. She cared greatly for the well-being of those around her.

We will be hosting a Celebration of Life on November 18, 11 am at Hebron Presbyterian Church, Staunton, Va.
