Nancy Cook
Nancy Katharine Cook, of Raphine, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Blue Ridge Christian Home. She was born on January 25, 1953, a daughter of the late Edward “Ed” and Nancy Katharine (Thompson) Cook.
Nancy K. received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in 1975. She worked for 20 plus years in the meat industry. She worked for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as a program coordinator in the Feed, Fertilizer, and Animal Remedies Division. From there she moved to the Pet Food Industry, working for the Pet Food Institute, and finished her career with Del Monte Foods, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Upon retirement she opened Cook and Associates Consulting, LLC.
She traveled to many countries and assisted them with meeting regulations for the safety and import of pet foods. She enjoyed taking her parents on several of those trips with her as well. She called Nebraska, North Dakota, Pittsburgh, and Virginia home over the years, going wherever her career took her.
She was a lifelong member of Hebron Presbyterian Church and was an ordained elder.
Nancy K. was an avid Virginia Tech fan and supporter. She attended the football games as a season ticket holder for numerous years and was a strong supporter of the Hokie Nation. She loved taking her friends and family to games to experience the excitement of football in Lane Stadium.
Survivors include her siblings: Wendy C. Kennedy and husband, Glenn of Glasgow and Thomas E. Cook and wife, Jan of Swoope; nieces and nephews: Katharine Taylor and husband, Dalton, Jesse Bratton and wife, Katie, Sean Bratton and wife, Katlyn, Katie Bensinger and husband, Derek, and Thomas Kennedy and wife, Jessica, Michaela Kennedy; great nieces and nephews: Gideon, Gabriel, and Elijah Bratton, Frankie and Crew Bratton, Hailey, Kainen and Paislee Taylor; as well as extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted on January 10th, 2026, at 2pm at Hebron Presbyterian Church, 423 Hebron Rd., Staunton, with Dr. Hank Scoggins officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
