Mirna Flory Wolfe
Mirna Wolfe, 96, lived at the Bridgewater Retirementcommunity where she passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023.
Mirna was born on September 12, 1926 in Shanxi Province, China to Nora and Rev. Byron Flory who were missionaries. Following high school she went on to study sociology and history at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia.
After college she taught high school history and English. She met Galen W. Wolfe at Bridgewater College, and they married on August 1, 1948. Together, they spent 3 years as missionaries in Quito, Ecuador. Mirna and Galen had five children: Margaret, Catherine, Luke, Paul and James and four grandchildren.
She worked for the Baltimore County School System for 20 years as an elementary school librarian. Faith was an important part of Mirna's life. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and played in the hand bell choir. She also went on many mission trips both in the states and aboard.
Mirna was an avid world traveler having been to Russia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, South America, twice back to China to visit the land of her birth and once to Ecuador to the town where she had lived.
After retiring she was a dedicated volunteer at the local food bank. While she was a busy woman she loved to read, knit and sample her favorite chocolates.
Mirna was predeceased by her husband, Galen, a sister, Verna Ruth, and three brothers, Wendell, Byron and Daniel. She is survived by her children Margaret (Jim Thompson), Catherine (John Powers, sons Phillip (Amber) and Allan Powers), Luke, James, Paul (Karole Lynne and son Tyler and daughter Emily Wolfe).
There will be a private burial service for the immediate family and a community memorial service to be held September 16, 2023 in the Lantz chapel at the Bridgewater Retirement Village.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Hereford Food Bank (P.O. Box 400 Monkton, MD 21111) or the BRC Foundation at the Bridgewater Retirement Community (302 North Second St, Bridgewater, VA 22812).
