Mildred Elizabeth Shank

Mildred Elizabeth Shank, 96, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

She was born December 22, 1927 in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Robert R. and Irene (Jones) Swartz.

On September 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to E. Glendon Shank, who preceded her in death on September 3, 2018.

Mildred graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in 1945 and was a devoted housewife and mother. She served in various women's clubs and dearly loved working as a volunteer at Rockingham Memorial Hospital during much of her life. Her interests, along with her husband Glendon, included camping, golfing and attending UVA sporting events.They moved to Ocala, FL in 1994 and resided there until 2015, and lived in Lafayette, Louisiana for four years prior to moving back to the Bridgewater area living at White Birch Communities.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dale Edwin Shank, and a brother Dwight F. Swartz.

Surviving are son, Jerry D. Shank and wife, Ellen, of Bridgewater; grandson, Derick (Bly); great-grandchildren, Charliegh and Graham; daughter-in-law, Nola Elena Ramollo Shank; grandson, Taylor (Jennifer), granddaughter Charlotte.

Per Mildred's request. A private service will be held at Bridgewater Cemetery. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the White Birch Community for the wonderful care given to Mildred during her stay there.
