Michael David "Mike" Shifflett
Michael David Shiflett, “Mike”, 68, passed away peacefully on November 17th, 2023. He was born on February 23rd, 1955, and spent most of his life in Crimora, VA. Mike owned and operated Mike’s Tire and Auto, better known as Sammy’s Exxon. Upon the sale of the family-owned service station, Mike enjoyed his time at Interstate Muffler in Waynesboro, where he continued his service work. He had a generous heart and often showed random acts of kindness. He loved the community as much as the community loved him.
During his life, Mike enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, racing of all kinds, and enjoying the outdoors at Smith Mountain Lake. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and North Carolina Tarheels.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy and Dolly Shiflett. Surviving are his wife, Pam Waggy Shiflett, to whom he was married 48 years, his two children, Paige Ryder, (TJ) and Patrick Shiflett (Kelly), four grandchildren, Beckett, Maci, Addison, and Harper; and a sister, Hope Aquino. He is also survived by his loving sisters-in-law, Phyllis Rodeffer (Dennis), Pauletta Waggy and Penny Hays (Woody); brother-in-law, James Waggy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special feline companion, Lilly.
The family will receive friends at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21st, from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. A graveside service will take place at 10:00AM the following day, Wednesday, November 22nd, at Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren, 36 Crimora Mine Rd, Crimora, VA 24431, with Pastor E.B. Shoemaker officiating. Pallbearers will be Jorge Gonzalez, Steve Rickman, PJ Coffey, Freddy Craig, Dana Pittman and Rick Herron. Petie Coffey will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family would like to extend a special note of thanks to the ICU nurses at Augusta Health and to the staff at the Shenandoah House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mike’s name to Shenandoah Valley Animal Services, 1001 Mt. Torrey Rd, Lyndhurst, VA 22952.
