Merlie Sponaugle Long

Merlie (Sponaugle) Long, 98, of Rawley Springs, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Bridgewater Home.

She was born on December 13, 1926, and was a daughter of the late William and Leona (Arbogast) Sponaugle.

Merlie retired from Metro Pants, was a member of Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, and attended Souls Harbor Church.

Merlie was united in marriage on April 20, 1947 to Harvey Long, who preceded her in death.

Merlie is survived by three children, Edna Roadcap, Emily (Ernest) Fitzgearld, and Glenna Gill; sister, Grethel Bennett; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Betty Long; and many nieces and nephews;

She was also preceded in death by sons, Willie, Willis, and Gary Long; sisters, Rosie Sponaugle, Rhea Nelson, Loretta Harman, Nola Wimer, Thelma Harris, and Sudie Sponaugle; brothers, Jacob, Anthony, Herbert, Olin, Roche, and Dwight Sponaugle; grandsons, Harvey "Jay" Long, and Christopher Roadcap; daughter-in-law, Donna Long; son-in-law, Frank Roadcap.

A service celebrating Merlie's life will be held 11 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, with Corey Herod officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rawley Springs Church Cemetery.
