Melissa Zelaya

Melissa Zelaya, 39, of Harrisonburg, Virginia passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at University of Virginia Medical Center.

She was born on March 26, 1986 and was a daughter of the late Candelario Vargas and Agapita Vargas.

Known for her warmth, infectious laughter, and vibrant spirit, Melissa was the life of every party, always ready to dance and share her joy with others. Her kitchen was her kingdom, where she poured love into every meal she made. A devoted mother and friend, she had a unique ability to light up any room, making everyone feel special and loved. Melissa will be deeply missed by her children and family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Melissa is survived by four children, Susana (Santana) Gonzales, Javier Zelaya, Milagros Zelaya, Alexandra Zelaya; two brothers, Mario (Amelia) Vargas and Juan Vargas; two sisters, Flor Vargas, Kimberly (Agustin) Vargas; three nieces, Kassandra Vargas, Alondra Vargas, Scarlette Garcia; two nephews, Patrick Chicas and Mario Vargas, Jr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Sophia Vargas, Madelynn Vargas, Ahtziri Vargas.
