Maurice "Moe" Alexander Davenport

Maurice Alexander “Moe” Davenport, 78, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the residence of his brother.
Mr. Davenport was born in Augusta County, Virginia on July 19, 1945, a son of the late William Gray Davenport, Sr. and Agnes (Childress) Davenport.
Moe retired after 32 years with the City of Staunton, where he served as a Police Officer and School Resource Officer. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid sports fan and loved keeping his vehicles cleaned. Mr. Davenport will be remembered as kind and caring.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by three brothers, Lionel Berkeley Davenport, Alvin Leon Hart, and Zane Uzell Davenport.
Surviving, is a daughter, Evette Davenport of Staunton, her significant other, Robert Ferguson, her son, Tyler Newman and his fiancée, Tamara Thompson, and grandchild, Kyrie Newman; a son, Logan A. Davenport of Staunton; his fiancée, Terry Simmons of Harrisonburg, her children, Vanessa Moats and her husband, Andre, Dustin Simmons, Philip Simmons and her grandson, Jackson; siblings, William Gray Davenport, Jr. of Staunton, Wanda Elaine Davenport of Richmond, Sylvia Laverne Davenport of Alexandria, Walter Samuel Davenport of Stuarts Draft and Jeffrey Marshall Henderson and his wife, Deborah Ann of Staunton; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church by Myron Contee.
Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin, West Virginia.
Active pallbearers will be his son, Logan Davenport, grandson, Tyler Newman, and Dustin Simmons, Robert Ferguson, Nathan Craig, Philip Simmons, Andre Moats, and Scott Fitzgerald.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton is in charge of his arrangements.
