Mary "Shull" Loraine Simmons

December 27, 1933 - November 13, 2023

Mary Loraine Shull Simmons, 89, of Bridgewater, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 in the Wellness House at the Bridgewater Home.

She was born on December 27, 1933 and was a daughter of the late William Joseph and Mary Gladys Vivian Markel Sheets Shull.

Mary was an active member at Sangerville Church of the Brethren, where she had played the organ and was in the women's fellowship. She retired from Bridgewater Retirement Community after 32 years of service. Mary enjoyed reading, especially Zane Grey books, doing puzzles, writing poems, singing and canning. She worked in the library at Virginia Tech. Mary typed dissertations for numerous professors and students at Bridgewater College. She was a member of the Sangerville Towers Ruritan Club and the Bridgewater Home Auxiliary. Mary loved all animals, especially her cats.

Mary was united in marriage on November 22, 1951 to William Lee Simmons.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Cheryl (Peter) Richards, Katy Simmons, Sandy (Jeff) Warner, and Anna (Tim) White; sister, Eunice Carol Rosenburg; sister-in-law, Eloise Shull; eight grandchildren, Chad (Trish Brown) Richards, Cory (Molyna) Richards, Lindsey (Chris) Kite, Natalie (Isaac) Rohrer, Heidi (Zachary) King, Jonathan Warner, Nathan (Merlinda) White, and Joshua (Mimi) White; 11 great grandchildren, Tory Brinkley, Samantha Brinkley, Jackson Richards, Logan Brown, Henry Richards, Avery Richards, Dixon Richards, Mason Richards, Lane Kite, Jessica King, JAK King and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tena Simmons and brother, Harley Shull.

A service celebrating Mary's life will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Sangerville Church of the Brethren with Pastor Steve Spire officiating. Burial will follow at Sangerville Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects to Mary at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater on Wednesday from 10:00 am to 6:00 PM and the family will receive friends following the service.
