Mary Lou Simmons

Mary Lou Simmons, 91, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, in Chesterfield, Virginia. She was born on May 29, 1935, in Franklin, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Ruth Hinkle. Mary Lou cherished the time she spent with her family. She and Lester especially enjoyed spending their summers at their home in Deltaville and their winters in Richmond, creating many wonderful memories together. She was employed by Bap Geon Import Auto Parts in Richmond. In her free time, Mary Lou enjoyed collecting angels, tending to her flowers, and working in the yard. She also had a caring heart for others and generously gave of her time as a volunteer nursing assistant. She is survived by her children, Carol Simmons (Doug), Debbie Conway (Mike), and Beverly Carwile (Jerry); her brothers, Paul “Buddy” Hinkle and his wife, Debbie and Richard Hinkle and his wife, Delores; and her faithful companion, Lucky, which was a birthday gift from her grandson, Michael. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester Simmons; her brothers, William “Billy” Hinkle and his wife, Debbie and Jimmy Hinkle and his wife, Barbara Jean; and her sister, Patsy Bright and her husband, David. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton. There will be no public viewing. Henry Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
