Mary "Frances" (Wagner) Hartzog
Mary “Frances” (Wagner) Hartzog, 80, loving wife of the late Kenneth Hartzog, made her ascent into Heaven on September 24, 2025, after a brief hospital stay.
She was born in Middlebrook on April 5, 1945 to the late Robert King Wagner, Sr, and Ida Frances Wagner. She resided in her dream home in Staunton for the last 25 years, a home her and Kenneth lovingly built and established.
Frances graduated from Wilson Memorial High School and nursing school and was an LPN for many years at Kings Daughters Hospital before becoming a homemaker.
Mrs. Hartzog is survived by her two children, Steven Michael Hartzog and his wife, Valerie of Swoope, and Jason Randolph Hartzog and his wife, Cherri of Palmyra.
She was the proud grandmother of three boys, Deputy Tyler Hartzog and his wife, Victoria, Zachary Hartzog and his wife, US Army 2nd Lt. Renee, and Eli Hartzog and his wife, Madison. She was even prouder of Tyler’s sons - her three great-grandchildren Luka, Ivory, and Zane Hartzog.
Frances is predeceased by several siblings including her fraternal twin Franklin Wagner, Barbara Lawrence, Charlotte Swortzel, Robert Wagner, Jr., and Tommy Wagner. Surviving brothers and sisters are Charles Wagner of Greensboro, GA, John Wagner of Spokane, WA, Rebecca Breen of Palmyra, VA, Sue Reese of Greenville, VA, and Virginia Simmons of LaBelle, FL.
She also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.
She had several close, special friends in her life, including the late Dutch Ralston and his wife Joyce, Dave and Betty Kiser, and two wonderful neighbors, Dr. George and Nadine Woodrum.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. by Pastor Keith Johnson at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 334 Mt. Tabor Road, Staunton, VA. You are welcome to visit with family following the service from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Kenneth’s and Frances’ home, 98 Mitchell Lane in Staunton.
If you so choose in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
