Mary Elizabeth Batten, 96, of Grottoes, went to be with her Lord, on Saturday, January 17, 2026. She was born February 5, 1929 in Lexington, Virginia, daughter of the late Raymond Austin Wade and Beulah Mae Sensabaugh Wade.

Mary attended Rockbridge County Schools through the 11th grade. She was a homemaker and a member of Grottoes Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Ward West and her second husband, Earl Jason Batten; her brothers, Ernest Wade and William Wade and her two daughters, Linda Gay West and Norma Jean West.

Survivors include her four children, Kenneth West of Charlottesville, Michael West of Fishersville, Kim West and her spouse, Dennis Magers of Greenville and Wayne West of Fishersville; her two grandsons, William Curry, IV of Churchville and Marshall Curry of Marietta, Georgia; her brothers, Donald Wade and his wife, Leona of Waynesboro and her sister, Stella Wade Runkle and her husband, Donnie of Rockbridge Baths.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in her name to Grottoes Church of the Brethren, Grottoes, VA 24441.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Dr., Fishersville, VA 22939.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Rd., Waynesboro, conducted by Pastor Tim Munson.
