Mary Ann Byrd

FISHERSVILLE – Mary Ann (Sipe) Byrd, 85, widow of C. A. Byrd, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Born February 4, 1941 in Augusta County, she was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Mamie (Buchanan) Sipe. She graduated from Churchville High School, and on June 28, 1959 married Cecil A. Byrd. Together they raised two children and were blessed with 63 years of marriage.

Mary Ann enjoyed a 38-year career in banking, primarily as a teller for Bank of America, and retired in 1996. Following retirement, she worked part-time in the Augusta County Treasurer’s office until 2003. She was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for over 20 years. She was an avid reader and traveler; she and C. A. traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and also enjoyed a special trip through Canada to Alaska. She was a devoted wife and caregiver to C. A., and a loving mother and grandmother.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by C. A. on January 20, 2023; and also by sister Betty Maiden and brothers Bobby, Ronnie and Bill Sipe.

Surviving are her two children, Michael S. Byrd (wife Doris) of Verona and Ashley Taylor Byrd Rankin of Staunton; sisters Ruth Bradley of Stuarts Draft and Donna Gordon of Mt. Solon; brother John Sipe of Staunton; grandchildren Bradley Cole Byrd (wife Chelsea), Trisha Renae Jordan (fiancé Ray Carey), Emberly Michelle Jordan, Ariana Jade Rankin, and Dominic Michael Knight; step grandchildren Edward Rutledge and Cody Rutledge; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 7 in St. James United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Lester Kennedy. Entombment in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens will take place privately.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
