Marvin Richards

Marvin Stephen Richards, 71, of Luray, departed this life for his heavenly home on Saturday, September 9, 2023, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family. Known as "Steve" or "Buns," he was born on January 26, 1952, in Luray. He was the son of the late Marvin Wesley Richards and June Marie Burner Richards.Steve was a 1971 graduate of Luray High School and attended Chowan College and Virginia Tech. He was employed with Shenandoah National Park for 36 years, retiring in 2010.Steve was raised in town but bought a small farm, where he enjoyed raising cattle and crops. He was a member of the Luray Volunteer Rescue Squad, Luray Volunteer Fire Department, Rileyville Baptist Church, the Rileyville Ruritan Club, and was an avid collector of antiques.He is survived by three children, Stephen Burner Richards of Luray, John Hudson Richards (Maggie Rose) of Acworth, GA, and Sarah Anna Richards of Berryville; five grandchildren, Paisley Rose, Hudson Lee and Waylynn June of Acworth, GA, Luna Light-Lee and Robert West-Lee of Berryville; three sisters, Sandra Richards Sours, twin Sharon Richards Painter (Ray), and Teresa Richards Harlow (Todd), all of Luray; and numerous nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, at the Rileyville Baptist Church for friends and family. Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Friday, September 29, at the home of his sister, Sandra Sours, 117 N. Lee St., Luray.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department.
