Martha Ann (Burke) Staples

July 30, 1936 - April 24, 2025

Martha Ann (Burke) Staples, 88, widow of Brenton Hall Staples, of Goshen, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at her niece’s home in Covington.
Mrs. Staples was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on July 30, 1936, a daughter of the late William McKinley Burke and Leslie Mae (Jackson) Burke. 
Martha retired as a Mending Department Supervisor from Stillwater Mills in Augusta Springs and managed her husband’s pulpwood business for many years. She was a devoted member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Martha enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping with her family. She loved working in her yard, tending to her flower gardens, and hosting family in her home for holidays and special events. 
Mrs. Staples was the last surviving member of her immediate family. 
In addition to her parents and husband of 45 years, Mrs. Staples was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Franklin Burke and his wife, Elizabeth and John Edward Burke, Sr. and his wife, Helen L.; a sister, Evelyn Louise (Burke) Fields and her husband, Lindsey; six nephews, Robert Burke, Jr., McKinley (Kenny) Burke, Paul Burke, Steven Fridley, Blake Burke, and Tony Burke; and a niece, Dorothy “Dotty” Burke. 
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. 
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 in the Coffman Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Claudette Wilcher.
Burial will follow in Little River Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Danny Clifton, Jason Byram, Gene Bowden, Ryan Bowden, Jonathan Rowe, and Alvin Fox, Sr.

The family would like to express a sincere “Thank you” to her nurses, Jim Bay, RN, Jordan Steward, CNA, Nikki Taylor, RN, and other employees at ACG Hospice for their compassion, care, and dedication to Martha. We cannot thank you or recommend you enough. We would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Allegheny Health and Rehab for caring for Martha as well. 
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive in Staunton is in charge of her arrangements.
