Marnie Kathleen Colton
Marnie Kathleen Colton, 48, beloved daughter of David and Patricia Colton passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024.
She was born on July 21, 1975, in Salisbury Maryland and in 1979 moved with her parents to Waynesboro, Virginia. Marnie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Max and Helen Colton, and William and Ruth Holland. In addition to her parents she is survived by her brother Ryan (Denan) Colton and niece Sydney, of Glen Allen, VA; her aunts Billie Ruth (William) Wilson; Teresa (Richard) Gibson; Carol (Mike) Colton; and her uncle William (Sara) Holland. She is also survived by her former husband, Ray Cruitt, of Takoma Park, MD with whom she maintained a lasting friendship.
Marnie graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1993, attained a BA degree from Mary Washington College in 1997, and earned a MFA degree from Emerson College, Boston, MA, in 2000.
For many years Marnie was employed by the Enoch Pratt Library System and by John Hopkins University as an editorial assistant in Baltimore, MD. She was also employed by the American Psychological Association and the American Archaeological Society in Washington, DC. Prior to her illness she was a medical editor for the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, Washington, D.C.
Marnie had a creative spirit, was a gifted writer and poet having won grants from the Maryland State Arts Council. She was a Kirkus book reviewer and was an avid reader of many genres including women in the arts, art history, film, music, and literature.
There will be no public service per her request. A private family service will be held with a gathering of friends and family to be held at a later date.

Box 62066, Durham, NC 27715); National Museum of Women in the Arts (1250 New York Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20005); your local animal shelter; Health Equipment Loan Program (3925 Churchville Ave, Churchville, VA 24421); or Shenandoah House Hospice (111 N Campus Dr, Fishersville, VA 22938).
